In 2019, USAID, through the Annual Program Statement (APS), invited local organizations based in Makueni County to send their applications for the County Self-Reliance/Kaunti Kuimarisha Uendelevu Program. 

USAID Mission Director, Mark Andrew Meassick and H.E Prof. Kivutha Kibwana, Governor of Makueni (2012 – 2022) on 14th May 2020, launched the Makueni Local Development Organization (LDO) Co-Creation.

The Mission Director in his remarks pointed out the roles of USAID as well as commitments in helping the Civil Society, especially at the County Level in realization of the birth of devolution in Kenya.

To spearhead the formation of a local development organization for Makueni County, an LDO Technical committee was formed comprising members of the Makueni Development Committee and USAID APS applicants.

The Makueni LDO formation process is supported by USAID and Aga Khan Foundation through the Yetu Initiative.

MADET Mission

Makueni Development Trust (MADET) is a local development organization (LDO) which is community-owned and community-led development organization in Makueni County. Our head offices are located at ACK Emmanuel Pro Cathedral building church Wote town, opposite Makueni Mother and Child Hospital. For effective service delivery, we also have regional offices in all the six sub counties within Makueni County. MADET is a platform for everyone as it’s community-owned and community-led development organization. MADET exists to provide leadership in organizing and amplifying the voice of citizens in Makueni from the village to the county level while promoting sustainable development. 

It will enable Makueni County residents to discuss long-term development priorities and lobby relevant stakeholders to adopt them. It also provides a platform for the people of Makueni County to participate in decision-making on county development priorities. Our key roles include coordinating, collaborating, and networking by providing platform amongst civil society organizations, Community Based Organizations (CBO), and development partners working on a wide array of thematic issues.

Our mission is to provide leadership by organizing and amplifying the voice of citizens in Makueni from the village to the county level while promoting sustainable development through:

By being a community entered organization, the organization will play a central role in identifying community needs, engaging the locals in constructive discussion pertaining to development projects, and educating them on the need for taking part in development discussions within the county.

Precisely, we will focus on changing women and youths mentalities toward participation in community development projects.

Our vision

Our vision is to transform lives of Makueni residents through citizenry empowerment and inclusive and equitable development within Makueni County by promoting women, youth, and people with disabilities participation in county government projects.

Our objective

MADET’s primary objective is to organize local organizations to build a collective voice for Makueni citizens that empower them to solve their own problems and promote equitable participation by women, the youthful generation, and People with Disabilities (PWDs). The organization focuses on informing residents about their constitutional rights to the access of quality government services and development projects through organized forums and public barazas.
